I want to tell you an interesting story. John Kellogg invented corn flakes to decrease libido. He was against sexual activity and never consummated his marriage. He adopted all his children. He thought making bland cereal would kill the excitement and reduce libido. Little did he know his invention does actually work to kill libido by significantly reducing the amount of testosterone produced when eating his product or other high glycemic/high calorie foods.

The other day I got together with a doctor from the University of Alberta and had a great conversation. I love the opportunity to talk to brilliant educated people. I always learn a lot in a short period of time. We talked a lot about different studies and the shadiness of getting studies done to prove your side of the argument. She talked about Tim Caulfield who debunks beliefs in science and shows how you can find obscure correlations and evidence in studies to prove your argument no matter what your argument might be. I’ll come back to this point; remember the name Tim Caulfield.
What I want to talk about today is the types of exercises that you need to do to get the abs showing and then a couple cool tricks that makes a huge difference. The best exercises to do for weight loss, strength, and for building muscle mass are the same. They are called compound exercises. Basically, you are not isolating muscles like a body builder of the 70’s. You are working as much of your body at once as you can in various powerlifting movements with body building sets, reps, and rest times.
I hate to say it but your doctor isn’t going to take good care of you. They will do their job to keep you alive and feeling ok and some of them will put in the extra effort to do a good job. They will not keep you at optimum health; that costs money. It’s not a concern if you are overweight and they will likely think you just need to stay away from the cheeseburgers or something. Your doctor isn’t going to tell you the stuff I’m about to tell you here.
I am 33 years old and I am morbidly obese. I was in Mexico with my best friend for his wedding when I had my aha moment. I decided at that point that I needed to change my life. I had found Travis on Kijiji and at the time I didn't know why but something drew me to him. I went for a consult with Travis and I haven't looked back since. My number one recommendation is to use food to get as much nutrient as possible. Eat as nutrient rich foods as possible. Always take the broccoli and spinach over the french-fries and ketchup.
It’s really simple and I’m not going to make it complicated. You need to get at least 75% of your calories from fats. You might have to weigh your food at first. There are 4 calories per gram of carbohydrates or sugars and proteins. There are 9 calories per gram of fat. Alcohol is not included in this diet, but there are 7 calories per gram of alcohol.
There’s a couple summits coming up that I feel are particularly important to mention. The Thyroid Summit is coming up and so is The Fat Summit. They are related in some ways and I’m sure there will be some of the same speakers at both.
There’s still so much confusion and misinformation out there about fat, both the fat on our bodies and the fats we eat. It seems like every doctor is writing a book on how fat is good for you and all the benefits of eating good fats. Then there’s the doctors writing books on how carbohydrates and sugars are causing all kinds of problems for people. The word is getting out slowly, but a lot of people are stuck on the stigma that fat is bad. I hope those people can get a paradigm shift with this summit.
